Lucas Jones is not having a good time on General Hospital, and it seems fans aren’t feeling very sympathetic either. While the character grapples with the fallout from Marco’s kidnapping and the long-standing shadow of Sonny Corinthos, viewers are losing patience. Social media has become a sounding board for frustrated fans who are calling Lucas “whiny” and more.
Why do General Hospital fans want Lucas gone?
The current storyline pits Lucas against his sister Carly and her infamous ex-husband, Sonny, after Sonny kidnaps Lucas’ boyfriend, Marco. Although Marco wants to move on, Lucas can’t bring himself to ignore what happened. His internal struggle leads him to question his relationship with Carly and whether he should step back from his family altogether.
Lucas vents his feelings to Felicia, who tries to offer perspective by recalling how his mother, Bobbie, navigated her complicated relationship with Sonny for Carly’s sake. But Lucas refuses to let Sonny off the hook. When he later confronts Sonny at the pool and hints he might tell Kristina what happened to Marco, Sonny brushes him off with a cold, “Do what you have to do.”
Instead of earning General Hospital viewers’ sympathy, Lucas’s self-righteous stance has struck a nerve online. One fan wrote on Facebook, “Time for the whiner Lucas to go.” Another echoed that, writing, “Lucas is only running his mouth because he thinks Sonny is not going to hurt him because of Carly.” Some suggested he doesn’t need to leave the show entirely but should “shut up and leave Sonny alone.” Others questioned his overall contribution to the storyline, calling him “boring” and hard to like.
Still, not all fans are entirely anti-Lucas. Some pointed out that other characters like Molly, Lulu, and Brook Lynn have had more unlikable moments. However, the prevailing sentiment lately is that Lucas’s moral outrage feels grating. It also appears misplaced, especially when directed at a character as deeply entrenched in Port Charles’ history as Sonny.
