Brad Pitt’s F1 is out now, and it is already garnering critical acclaim all around. With so much hype surrounding this licensed F1 movie, fans are already wondering if the post-credits scene sets up a sequel. To be fair, there is no post-credits scene, per se, in F1. However, there is a mid-credits scene in the movie.
Does F1 have a mid or post-credits scene?
While the Joseph Kosinski movie lacks a post-credit scene, something that is becoming increasingly common in big-budget movies, it does have a mid-credit scene.
The entire movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a retired Formula One driver working on secondary circuits. He is approached by Ruben (Javier Bardem), who recruits him for his Formula 1 team. The movie follows his racing journey as he conquers the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The film ends with Hayes deciding to leave F1 a champion. Then, a mid-credit scene teases a further journey for Hayes, which is not explicitly driven towards establishing a sequel.
F1: The movie’s mid-credits scene explained
In F1’s mid-credits scene, Hayes goes to Baja, California. There, he approaches an off-road racing team and asks if they are still looking for a driver. This scene ties back to an earlier scene in the movie. Hayes was deciding to go to Baja and race that circuit before Ruben approached him.
So, the mid-credits scene acts more as an extension of the movie than something setting up a sequel or spinoff. As the credits roll, Hayes races on the off-road tracks on Baja, indicating that he is not done yet.
Of course, this does keep the chance of a spinoff open. But an unlikely one in this case. If there is to be a sequel at all, there are many other avenues open for the film to explore as well.
