Thaao Penghlis, who played Tony DiMera in Days of Our Lives, has recently confirmed his return to the soap opera via social media, after last being seen in 2023. Penghlis’ Tony DiMera first appeared in 1981 and was active in a regular capacity on the soap until 1985 and again from 2007 to 2009. Ten years later, in March 2019, the character assumed a guest role before being bumped to recurring status in July. Throughout his tenure, DiMera and his evil counterpart, Andre (also played by Penghlis), were killed off multiple times. However, they managed to cheat death each time.
So, when is Thaao Penghlis’ Tony DiMera returning to Days of Our Lives? Here is Tony DiMera’s DOOL return explored.
When will Thaao Penghlis’ Tony DiMera return to Days of Our Lives?
Thaao Penghlis’ Tony DiMera will return to Days of Our Lives (DOOL) on June 20, 2025.
Penghlis confirmed DiMera’s return date via Instagram. He also teased an “interesting story” for the character involving “players” he has “not dealt with before.”
“But what a game of chess we play. Who could possibly be the victor?” Penghlis added.
Penghlis is not the only Days of Our Lives veteran confirmed to return. He is joined by Leann Hunley’s Anna DiMera, Matthew Ashford’s Jack Deveraux, Melissa Reeves’ Jennifer Deveraux, Greg Vaughan’s Eric Brady, Allison Sweeney’s Sami Brady, and Chandler Massey’s Will Horton.
Tony DiMera is the first member of the DiMera family to be introduced in Days of Our Lives. He is considered one of the few “good” DiMeras and is known for his romantic relationship with Anna. He is also recognized for his antagonistic dynamic with his adoptive father, Stefano DiMera, whom he cares for regardless.
Tony’s reputation suffered for a considerable amount of time following Andre DiMera‘s impersonation of him for 20 years. He was viewed as an evil man by Salem’s residents until 2007, when he was rescued from an island where he had been held prisoner by Andre and Stefano.
