The View: Where Is Sunny Hostin & Why Is She Absent?

With veteran lawyer Sunny Hostin unexpectedly missing from the May 27 episode of The View, fans have been inquiring about her whereabouts and the reason behind her absence. While many expressed concern about her not appearing on ABC’s premier morning talk show, co-host Whoopi Goldberg clarified that the absence is due to an event in her personal life.

Here’s everything you need to know about why Hostin will not be appearing on The View for the entirety of this week.

Why is Sunny Hostin absent from The View this week?

On Tuesday’s episode of the fan-favorite talk show, co-host Whoopi Goldberg confirmed that her fellow longtime co-host, Sunny Hostin, would not be on The View this week, as she is attending her son Gabriel’s graduation.

Hostin’s son, who has been studying at Harvard University, will graduate from the esteemed institution on May 29. As such, the 56-year-old lawyer and author will be in Cambridge, Massachusetts, this week to cheer her son on as he receives his degree at the university’s commencement ceremony.

While announcing the reason for Hostin’s absence, Goldberg noted, “So, we have to tell you that Sunny is out this week because she’s attending our son’s college graduation. He’s graduating from Harvard! It’s so wonderful.”

“Just in time,” Joy Behar added, as The View’s live audience erupted in applause to commemorate the special occasion in Hostin’s life. While showering Gabriel with more praise, the Sister Act star stated, “We knew you could, and now you did. So, yay for you!”

With Sunny Hostin skipping Tuesday’s episode of The View, popular political strategist and commentator Ana Navarro stepped in to fill her spot. In addition to Goldberg, Behar, and Navarro, the Tuesday panel also featured Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

As confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, Hostin will resume her hosting duties on The View from June 2, 2025.
