Why ‘Google AI Glasses’ Is Trending Amid Android XR 2025 Reveal

Google recently held the 2025 Google I/O developer conference, where they discussed Android XR, an operating system designed for devices like Samsung’s Project Moohan headset and Google smartglasses. As a result, this has sparked widespread searches on Google AI glasses. Accordingly, fans have been wondering why ‘Google AI glasses’ have been trending. They have also become curious about what Android XR is bringing to the Android ecosystem.

So, here is everything to know about what Android XR has in store, as well as the Google AI Glasses.

Android XR to bring Gemini to glasses and headsets

Android XR, an operating system expected to power headsets and glasses, and scheduled to come out in 2025, will feature Gemini AI. Thus, users using the Gemini AI-powered headsets and glasses will not only have a smooth experience but will also be greatly aided in their understanding of their surroundings.

Gemini will take actions on users’ behalf when prompted. For example, Android XR users can get help when looking for directions to a place, want to translate a foreign language, or want to take pictures of memorable moment. They can also get a summary of messages on their phone. Thus, users don’t have to pick up the device and do everything themselves, while enjoying the environment.

As per Google’s official blog, the company is currently partnering with eyewear brands like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create Android XR glasses. Kering Eyewear is also being eyed for future collaborations.

Additionally, the Android XR glasses are equipped with their own camera, microphones, and speakers. These glasses work in conjunction with a phone, thus allowing you to access applications without picking up your phone.

The Android XR SDK, which is a comprehensive developmental kit for Android XR, launched on December 2024. According to the Android Developer’s Blog, this allowed:

  • Spatializing an app with rich 3D elements, panels, and audio.
  • Enjoyment of a fantastical virtual space or engagement with users at their homes and workplaces.
  • Taking advantage of multimodal interaction methods like hands and eyes.

So far, Samsung’s Project Moohan and Xreal’s Project Aura are the two devices currently confirmed to have Android XR. The latter is also the first device to be in glasses format.
