Serena Williams reveals why she avoided Taylor Swift at Super Bowl
Serena Williams decided to give “space” to Taylor Swift at the 2025 Super Bowl after the pop sensation got booed by some Philadelphia Eagles supporters. Initially, Williams wanted to approach Swift’s VIP box to get an autograph for her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.
However, the Golden Slam winner changed her mind, as she decided giving space to the “Cruel Summer” singer could be better. In an interview for Time, Williams recalled the booing incident, sharing, “Why would you boo her? That’s so mean. That’s just awful.”
She added, “I’m such a mom. I was ready to go in here myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl.’” The record-breaking tennis player also sympathized with the sensitivity of Swift’s situation that day. “It’s hard when your team is losing. I totally get it.”
Before talking to Time, Williams also voiced her support for the 14-time Grammy winner on X on the day of the Super Bowl. She wrote, “I love you @taylorswift13 dont listen to those booo!!” on February 10.
Meanwhile, Swift has previously addressed the negative reactions that she has received while cheering for her beau, Travis Kelce. Swift started dating the NFL heartthrob in 2023, and since then, she has appeared at several Kansas City Chiefs games.
Reports suggest that Swift’s presence at NFL games has boosted sales of Travis Kelce’s jersey by 400% and brought more engagement. However, some fans have had mixed reactions to Swift appearing on the screen multiple times during the game.
Speaking about the negative reactions, Swift told Time Magazine in 2023, “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is,” the “Fortnight” singer added. She quipped, “I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
