Fans of Dropout were caught off guard when a video surfaced showing Zac Oyama being fired by Sam Reich. The dramatic moment quickly gained attention online, leading many to wonder whether the firing was real.
Here is everything to know about the video and firing.
Did Zac Oyama get fired by Sam Reich on Dropout?
No, Zac Oyama was not actually fired by Sam Reich. The video that sparked the rumors seems to be a comedy sketch made for Dropout’s YouTube channel and wasn’t real.
The video, posted on Dropout’s YouTube channel on December 13, 2016, opens with Sam Reich jokingly announcing he has the unfortunate task of letting Zac go. Reich begins by stating he has the “sad duty” of firing Oyama, stating that the reason is simply financial. He says, “I just don’t want to pay him anymore. I want that money instead.” He adds that those aren’t good enough reasons, so he asks the audience to come up with better ones.
Zac then enters the room, seemingly unaware of what’s coming. Reich breaks the fake news that he’s being let go by the end of the year. Oyama looks stunned and asks why, leading to a string of increasingly ridiculous and weird reasons. Reich accuses Zac of using too much shampoo, not being the real Slim Shady, checking Zillow too much, typing “2k16” instead of the full year, and even plotting to steal the Declaration of Independence.
Reich continues by saying Oyama doesn’t have a beard, claps his hands too often, never brings in his parrot, and once colored all the toilet paper black. Zac tries to defend himself, insisting his hair needs the shampoo and claiming he only wanted to see if the Declaration had a hidden map as a “patriotic act.”
Despite his explanations, Reich keeps adding bizarre reasons for letting him go. The sketch ends with Zac loudly clapping his hands on the way out. The video concludes with Reich sighing about how hard it is to be the boss.
However, the whole video appears to be a comedy skit and not a real firing.
