Why Fans Think HBO’s The Leftovers Is Leaving Max

Rumors about HBO’s critically acclaimed drama The Leftovers leaving the Max streaming platform have been circulating for some time, leaving fans confused. The series, which has enjoyed cult status since it ended in 2017, was reported to be removed from the site soon. But is there any truth to these rumors? Here are all the details on that and more.

Is HBO’s The Leftovers leaving Max?

No, The Leftovers is not leaving Max.

HBO Max has built its reputation on a strong library of original series, from The Sopranos to Succession. Recently, there has been speculation about the future of one of its most critically acclaimed dramas, Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers, on the streaming platform. Reports initially claimed that the show was to leave Max on April 11, with its departure then delayed to June 3, 2025. (via ComicBook.com)

However, it has been confirmed that The Leftovers is not leaving Max. A Reddit user recently revealed in a comment that a customer service executive from the Max Support team confirmed the series would remain on the platform.

The rumors about the show’s departure had sparked confusion and frustration among subscribers, especially since HBO originals rarely leave the service. Its fans were not in favor of the show being removed, with one saying, “Do not touch The Leftovers!” “The leftovers doesn’t deserve this,” wrote another.

Based on a 2011 novel by Tom Perrotta, The Leftovers explores a world forever changed after 2% of the global population vanishes in an event called the “Sudden Departure.” The series follows police chief Kevin Garvey and his fractured family as they grapple with grief, cults, and societal breakdown. It features Justin Theroux, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Carrie Coon, and several others.

It seems these were just rumors, and Max has no plans to remove the show from their site.
