Viewers have been buzzing about the chaotic and unscripted moment that unfolded during the April 5, 2025, episode. Here’s what went down during the unexpected moment.

What happened during Ego Nwodim’s SNL sketch?

In the April 5, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live, Ego Nwodim appeared alongside Colin Jost and Michael Che during the Weekend Update segment.

Nwodim, 37, portrayed a stand-up character named Miss Eggy while discussing the White House Correspondents’ Dinner’s decision not to hire a comedian, positioning herself as a replacement.

As Miss Eggy, described as a woman in her 50s with five children, Nwodim paced with a purse and delivered mock jokes intended for the dinner. During a call-and-response segment, she asked the audience, “Miss Eggy don’t what?” The crowd replied, “Play!” surprising Nwodim, who broke character and said, “How y’all know? Y’all wasn’t supposed to know that.”

The sketch escalated when Nwodim asked, “These men ain’t what?” and the live audience yelled back, “S—!” in unison. Shocked by the unscripted outburst, Nwodim reacted, “We finna get fired for that!” while Jost and Che burst into laughter. She followed up with, “Lorne [Michaels] gonna be mad at y’all!”

Nwodim closed the sketch by shouting again, “Miss Eggy don’t what?” to which the audience repeated, “Play!” She responded, “There it is!” to conclude the performance. Jost, still surprised, exclaimed, “That’s your ending? Oh my god!”

Deadline reported that the expletive aired live on Peacock, while NBC blocked it using a five-second delay. The version posted on social media and YouTube muted the word but kept the cast’s reactions. The FCC has not yet announced whether it will penalize NBC. Jack Black hosted the episode, and Elton John and Brandi Carlile were the musical guests.
