The answers for April 4’s edition of NYT’s Connections are:

  • WHAT’S LEFTOVER (Yellow) – BALANCE, DIFFERENCE, REMAINDER, REST
  • CAR TRIP (Green) – CRUISE, DRIVE, RIDE, SPIN
  • BASEBALL VENUES (Blue) – DIAMOND, FIELD, PARK, STADIUM

For the yellow category, BALANCE, REMAINDER, and REST are easily obtainable since they are commonly used words when describing what’s left in a particular thing, such as a bank account, food portion, or grocery stock. DIFFERENCE can be quite tricky since it is also used in places where leftover items or things aren’t concerned, i.e., the difference between religions.

For the green category, DRIVE, RIDE, and SPIN can be figured out easily. CRUISE can be a little tricky since its usage is also related to ship travel.

In the blue category, FIELD, PARK, and STADIUM, are easy to get if one understands the common relationship between them. This is because they are common venues for baseball games. DIAMOND may have been a bit tricky since it also refers to a gem.

BAY, HARMONY, and TRADE are fairly easy while INK requires some trial and error to get.
