Who Becomes the Chief in Pulse? Ending Explained

Netflix’s Pulse is available to binge-watch online, and fans are eager to know who becomes the Chief at the end of the show. The medical drama follows the drama and intrigue unravelling among the residents of Maguire Medical Center in Miami. A major storyline of the show is the unfortunate circumstances that pit two close friends, third-year residents Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms and Dr. Sam Elijah, against each other for the highly coveted position of Chief Resident.

Here are all the details on who becomes the Chief Resident at Maguire Medical Center at the end of Netflix’s Pulse.

Does Sam Elijah become the Chief or Danny in Pulse?

Sam Elijah ends up getting the Chief Resident position instead of Danny in Netflix’s Pulse.

Throughout the season, Danny had been determined to earn the coveted position and even had the skills to accomplish it. Her inability to trust in her proficiency constantly held her back. She had thus always sought reassurance from Xander, who pushed her to start working towards her goal of becoming Chief Resident and giving it her all. However, things turned complicated when Danny filed a complaint against Xander for sexual harassment. This brings about a major shift within the department, and tensions about who gets the Chief position start brewing.

As a result of her complaint, Xander is suspended from his duty, and Danny becomes the acting Chief. She eventually proved everyone wrong and performed well in her duties, garnering the attention of Dr. Natalie Cruz. Seeing her performing well, Cruz sets her sights on Danny for the new Chief Resident. But things took a drastic turn before she could officially name her the Chief.

It turns out that the complaint against Xander that stripped him of his position reached his mother, who happens to be a major donor at the hospital. Enraged with the situation, Xander’s mother asks Danny to be fired, but Cruz stands up to her defense. This conflicting power dynamic results in the Chair of Surgery and Emergency Medicine splitting into two departments. Cruz thus becomes the head of only Surgery and Emergency Medicine getting a new head. This doctor was already at odds with Cruz, so he decided to sideline her decision to make Danny the Chief Resident and gave the position to Sam Elijah instead.
