Queen Woo K-Drama on TVING: Release Date, Cast, Plot & More

The historical action K-drama Queen Woo will premiere this week with part 1 on TVING. The highly awaited series will see veteran actor Ji Chang-Wook as Go Nam-Mu, aka King Gogukcheon of Goguryeo. It will also star the Wedding Impossible actress Jeon Jong-Seo, who will portray the role of Woo Hee, aka Queen U of Goguryeo.

Jung Se-Kyo directed the upcoming Korean series, which was written by Lee Byeong-Hak. He previously helmed the 2020 movie Oh! My Gran and served as the assistant director for several other noteworthy movies, such as War of the Arrows, Perfect Game, Goodbye Mom, and Like Father, Like Son.

Queen Woo K-drama: Release date on TVING

TVING recently posted a preview trailer for Queen Woo on its Instagram, revealing the release date of the drama’s two parts on the streaming platform. Part 1 of the historical K-drama will premiere on TVING on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The second part of the series is set to debut on September 12 on the same network.

The preview showcases glimpses of an intense war, where King Gogukcheon of Goguryeo raises his soldiers’ motivation right before the battle. As seen in the trailer, a gruesome clash between the two sides will end up with bloodshed and many loss of lives. For viewers who love historical dramas with violence, Queen Woo will serve as the perfect remedy to satisfy their taste.

Queen Woo K-drama: Cast & plot

As mentioned earlier, actor Ji Chang-Wook will play one of the main roles, Go Nam-Mu, in Queen Woo. Aside from being the king of Goguryeo, he is renowned for having a strong mind and incredible battle skills. He is married to Queen U of Goguryeo. Meanwhile, viewers will see actress Jeon Jong-Seo portraying Woo Hee, aka Queen U of Goguryeo. She is known for her intelligence and beauty.

Apart from them, the main cast list for the upcoming K-drama also includes Kim Mu-Yeol as Eul Pa-So, Jeong Yu-Mi as Woo Sun, Park Ji-Hwan as Mugol, and Lee Soo-Hyuk as Go Bal-Gi. The series’s supporting cast comprises of Jeon Bae-Soo, Kim Do-Yoon, Jo Han-Chul, Lee Hae-Woo, Jung Jae-Kwang, Kang Young-Seok, Song Jae-Rim, and many more.

Queen Woo will chronicle the fascinating and epic story of Queen U of Goguryeo, who made history by becoming the first woman to reign twice as a queen. A crisis ensues after the sudden demise of the king of Goguryeo, Woo Hee’s husband. Moreover, the queen has to take immediate action to stop the mayhem.

Thus, she becomes the main target of several princes and the five tribes. They are all hungry for more power and are ready to do anything to gain it. The queen has the sole responsibility to protect her tribe and her family. To keep them safe, she has to follow the levirate marriage custom. While she will face several difficult challenges to marry one of the younger brothers of her late husband, she has to make one of them sit on the throne. However, Woo Hee has only twenty-four hours to achieve everything.
