Michael Lorenzen is an American professional baseball player, currently playing for the Kansas City Royals in MLB. The 32-year-old pitcher and outfielder also played for the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels, and Detroit Tigers in the past. However, on Tuesday night, he managed to injure himself during a game. Let’s take a look at how exactly Lorenzen suffered an injury and find out when he will return to play.
How did Michael Lorenzen get injured while playing baseball?
Michael Lorenzen suffered a left hamstring strain during the game against the Cleveland Guardians.
The injury occurred when he ran to cover first base during a double-play attempt. As he caught the ball, he went down to the ground, feeling a hamstring pull. However, he stayed in the game for a while before leaving in the second inning. Just after he felt the pull, Royals’ manager Quatraro and assistant athletic trainer Chris DeLucia checked on him. As he continued pitching, he struck out Lane Thomas. However, this seems to have further affected his injury. As per AP News, Quatraro said, “He aggravated it a little there. He probably amped it up too much.”
Lorenzen was soon forced to leave the game early and replaced by a reliever. Lorenzen will reportedly head back to Kansas City for an MRI which will further reveal the severity of the hamstring injury.
When will Michael Lorenzen return to play with the Kansas City Royals?
Currently, there is no official confirmation of when Michael Lorenzen will return to play with the Kansas City Royals.
The extent of the injury is still being assessed, and it’s unclear how long he will sit out. As per AP News, after the game Quatraro said, “We think it’s mild, but doubtful he’ll be able to pitch in five days. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow.” Hence, the team will only be able to determine when he will return after his MRI results come in.
