Young Sheldon Season 7: Did George Cooper Die?

While longtime fans will already know the answer, Young Sheldon newcomers will be wondering if George Cooper dies in the show. Does Season 7 Episode 12 spell the end of the fan-favorite character or does he live? As a kind, loving man who is devoted to his family, his death would no doubt devastate the audience. Here are the details about his potential death or recovery.

Young Sheldon Season 7

How did George Cooper die in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 12?

George dies off-screen of a heart attack in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 12 (A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture). It has been a moment of transition for the Cooper Family. Earlier in the episode, George learns that Rice University intends to hire him as a coach. He convinces Mary to relocate to Houston with him and Missy, though Sheldon, who will soon leave for California, isn’t entirely happy about all this.

In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon once mentions that his father passed away when he was 14. Lance Barber, the actor who portrays George in the spin-off, told TVLine that he was “emotionally prepared for his character’s death since the pilot because of what was already established in the original series.

As the Coopers wait for George to return to take a family photo, there is a knock on the door. When Mary opens it, Principal Peterson Coach Wilkins inform her and the others about George’s death.

Over the years, Young Sheldon has retconned certain things depicted in the original series. This includes George’s purported infidelity. Some of the fans must have been hoping the same thing would happen with George’s death. Unfortunately, George was always going to die, though the writers were unsure how they would get there.

It was none other than series co-creator Chuck Lorre who eventually decided that George would die before the series finale, so there would be enough time to end the series on a hopeful note.
