Will There Be a Dark Matter Season 2 Release Date & Is It Coming Out?

Created by Blake Crouch from his 2016 namesake novel, Dark Matter is a sci-fi drama series streaming on Apple TV Plus. The plot revolves around Jason Dessen, a Chicago-based physicist. An alternate version of him abducts him and sends him to another universe. When Jason discovers the truth, he sets out on a perilous journey to return to his family. Season 1 premiered on Apple TV Plus on May 7, 2024. If you want to know whether there will be a second season of Dark Matter, this is what we have learned.

Here’s all we know about Dark Matter Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there a Dark Matter Season 2 release date?

There is no Dark Matter Season 2 release date as the show was reportedly developed as a limited series.

As of early May 2024, Apple Studios has not renewed Dark Matter for the second season. This is likely because Blake Crouch’s original book doesn’t have a sequel. Moreover, several outlets list the show as a limited series. So, we can safely speculate that Dark Matter Season 2 is unlikely to happen.

Dark Matter stars Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen / Jason 2 and Jennifer Connelly as Daniela Dessen. The cast also includes Alice Braga as Amanda, Jimmi Simpson as Ryan, Oakes Fegley as Charlie Dessen, and Dayo Okeniyi as Leighton.

Why Dark Matter Season 2 might not be happening

Dark Matter Season 2 probably isn’t coming out because, as mentioned above, the show was likely developed as a limited series.

ComingSoon will provide an update if the circumstances ever change, and Apple Studios renews Dark Matter for a second season.

The official synopsis for Dark Matter reads:

“Jason Dessen is abducted into an alternate version of his life. To get back to his true family, he embarks on a harrowing journey to save them from the most terrifying foe imaginable: himself.”
