It was Deadline that first reported in April 2023 that a movie based on Blood Meridian was in development at New Regency. John Hillcoat, who previously directed another McCarthy adaptation, The Road, will helm and co-produce the project. McCarthy’s son John Francis McCarthy will be one of the executive producers of the film, while McCarthy Sr. will get a posthumous credit as an executive producer. In April 2024, several outlets reported John Logan (Gladiator) had joined the project as scriptwriter.
“Blood Meridian has been one of my favorite novels since first reading it in 1985,” Logan said in a statement. “It’s a majestic, beautiful and uncompromising book and I’m thrilled to be able to help bring Cormac McCarthy’s dark masterpiece to the screen,” he added.
