Shogun Episode 7 Ending Explained & Recap: What Happened to Nagakado?

Here’s the Shogun Episode 7 ending explained featuring a recap full of spoilers. Dive into our breakdown and find out what happened to Saeki Nobutatsu and Yoshii Nagakado.

What happened at the end of Shogun Episode 7?

Shogun Episode 7 ended with Yoshii Nagakado launching a secret but unsuccessful attack on Saeki Nobutatsu.

With Lord Toranaga planning to execute Crimson Sky, he invited his brother to propose an allied attack on Osaka and the Council of Regents. However, it turned out that Toranaga was too late to make his proposal as Nobutatsu had already accepted Lord Ishido’s offer.

He had taken the spot of Lord Sugiyama, becoming the 5th member of the Council of Regents. He arrived in Ajiro on the Council’s orders and asked Toranaga to surrender for the way Josen was murdered. Toranaga took a day to consider surrendering or going to war against the Council.

Knowing that his army doesn’t have the numbers to successfully execute Crimson Sky without Nobutatsu’s men, he decides to surrender to save his people from a suicide mission. This decision was not taken well by Nagakado, John Blackthorne, and other allies of Toranaga. Blackthorne believed that Toranaga’s actions would also mean the death of everyone else.

So, Nagakado launched a secret attack on Nobutatsu, and ultimately failed. As a result, things didn’t end well for him.

Does Nagakado die in Shogun episode 7?

Nagakado died while attacking Nobutatsu in hopes of saving his father and freeing his army.

While Nobutatsu was spending the night with his courtesan Kiku, Nagakado secretly ambushed him. He came very close to taking his uncle down for good. However, right before striking the killing blow, he slipped and his head smashed onto a rock. The accident crushed his skull and led to an immediate demise.

What Toranaga does in the aftermath of his son’s death remains to be seen. But he may blame his half-brother for what happened to Nagakado and change his decision to surrender. Becoming Shogun, he could possibly go to war against Lord Ishido and the Council of Regents in the 3 upcoming episodes.
