Episode 6 of Shogun saw Toranaga providing John Blackthorne with multiple gifts and titles for saving his life again. To entice him to stay and serve Toranaga’s cause, he was made the Chief Admiral of Kanto and the General of Toranaga’s Cannon Regiment. He was also gifted a night with Lady Kiku.
Meanwhile, Ishido took matters into his own hands under the influence of Lady Ochiba. He held the Council of Regents hostage in Osaka and appointed Lord Ito as the fifth Council member to vote for Toranaga’s impeachment.
He also had Toranaga’s ally, Lord Sugiyama, killed, which infuriated Toranaga. So, despite having a smaller army after a devastating earthquake, Toranaga decided to deploy Crimson Sky and go to war before Ishido can attack.
What is Crimson Sky in Shogun Episode 6?
Crimson Sky was a plan formulated to take down all the regents. Following that, Toranaga would become the Sole Regent to control Japan until Taiko’s heir comes of age.
As a part of Crimson Sky, Toranaga and his clan would launch a single violent attack on the Osaka Castle. The Council will be eliminated and a new government will be formed. With Toranaga’s army depleted, he is to join forces with his half-brother, Saeki Nobutatsu, and take down the Council of Regents by becoming “Shogun.”
So, the next two episodes will see Toranaga leading an attack on the Osaka Tower, where Ishido least expects an attack to happen. He won’t wait for his impeachment to be announced or Ishido to make the first move.
