Among all the twists and betrayals, The Traitors also surprises viewers with contestants leaving the show unexpectedly. One such contestant was Arie Luyendyk Jr., who surprised everyone by quitting. So, why Arie leave The Traitors? Find out why and whether or not he is still friends with Cirie.
Why did Arie leave The Traitors?
Arie Luyendyk Jr. left The Traitors season 1 to give other Faithfuls a clue that Cirie was a traitor.
The finale of The Traitors season 1 saw Arie quitting the show despite reaching so close to the finish line. He and Cirie were both traitors and would have split the money if they decided to end the game. While he voted for that, Cirie voted to banish one more contestant.
Since he knew that Cirie would convince the other two finalists Quentin and Andie to banish him, he decided to remove himself from the game. In an interview with Zachary Reality, he said:
“Yes, the money is important, but it’s more about the people I had grown to sort of build a relationship with.”
He admitted that when Cirie made it about the money, he decided to quit to give Andie and Quentin a clue that she was a traitor. However, they didn’t pick up on that and mutually chose to end the game. It allowed Cirie to win the entire prize money. But the way she won left Arie, Andie, and Quentin salty, which was also apparent in the reunion episode.
Is Arie still friends with Cirie?
Arie is not friends with Cirie as she was about to dupe him in The Traitors Season 1 finale.
In a recent Q&A session that Arie held on Instagram, he was asked whether he was on speaking terms with Cirie. He denied speaking to her since her win.
He wrote:
“that’s a no. she won it in a dirty way in my opinion but she’s [sic] has to live with that and that’s all ill really say. If I would have won in the end then I would have left the game with a clear conscience. a lot was left on the cutting room floor during endgame.”
Since Quentin shared this reply on his story, it’s clear that he and Arie are still not friends with Cirie. It’s also possible that Andie could be on the same page.
