The outlet reports that CBS has ordered a new spin-off prequel series that will revolve around Sheldon Cooper’s older brother Georgie and his fiancee Mandy as they raise their young family in Texas. The Hollywood Reporter states that the Young Sheldon sequel spin-off has been in the works since January.
Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland will serve as showrunners and executive producers, reprising their roles from Young Sheldon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this new spin-off/sequel series will be a multicamera show unlike the single-camera format followed by Young Sheldon.
Lorre, Molaro, and Holland had this to say about the spin-off in their statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“From The Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon, the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us. We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the Young Sheldon sequel spin-off is CBS’ third straight-to-series pickup for the 2024-25 TV season, with the NCIS: Origins prequel series and the Sherlock Holmes-related medical drama Watson.
