Why was Killer Mike arrested at the Grammys 2024?

Killer Mike was arrested at the Grammys 2024 on account of a physical altercation with a security guard for which he was booked by the authorities on a misdemeanor charge.

The 48-year-old famous rapper and activist was arrested at the Grammy Awards event on Sunday 4th February 2024, as posted via The Hollywood Reporter’s official X (Twitter) account, after he won three Grammy Awards, two for his work in “Scientists & Engineers”, for which he won “Best Rap Performance” and “Best Rap Song”. He also won “Best Rap Album” for his work on “Michael”, his first solo album in more than ten years. He was escorted by police at the Crypto.com Arena of Los Angeles, shortly after his wins.

According to police spokesperson Officer Mike Lopez, Killer Mike had been detained due to an altercation with a security guard at 4 pm. He was booked by the authorities on a misdemeanor charge. Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render was released at 8:37 pm and is currently scheduled to appear in court on February 29, 2024.

As of this writing, a comment has been requested by The Hollywood Reporter from Killer Mike’s side regarding the altercation. A representative of his has yet to respond to the text messages and emails sent regarding it. His Grammys team had declined to comment when approached by The Hollywood Reporter.

As for Killer Mike’s wins at the Grammys, he had this to say to his detractors during the Peacock Theater pre-show on Sunday:

“For all the people out there that think you get too old to rap, bulls***. I don’t give a damn if you’re 78 rapping about how many gals you got in the nursing home, make sure we keep hip-hop alive.”
