Has The Mothership movie been canceled?
Yes, Netflix has reportedly canceled Halle Berry’s nearly completed sci-fi thriller film, The Mothership.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, the Matt Charman-directed sci-fi movie which was shot in 2021, won’t see the light of day. Netflix and the creatives involved with the film weren’t reportedly happy with the shape it took as it needed several reshoots.
Apart from Halle Berry, the movie also features Omari Hardwick, Molly Parker, John Ortiz, and Paul Guilfoyle. It stars several children, who have aged quite a bit since the movie was first shot in 2021. So, because of the impracticality of the reshoots and the extensive de-aging that the film would have needed, Netflix had to abandon The Mothership.
As per the report, “A Netflix insider said that such decisions are never easy to make, nor are they taken lightly, and that the streamer was grateful to everyone who worked on the film.”
It’s important to note that the decision to cancel the film was forced. It wasn’t a choice to claim a tax write-off such as Warner Bros. Discovery did with Batgirl.
Will The Mothership movie ever be released?
It is highly unlikely for Netflix to release The Mothership as the movie was canceled before it was finished.
Since the film needs extensive reshoots, its current state may not be watchable. That’s exactly why Netflix had to cancel the movie. So, we shouldn’t expect it to ever be released simply because it cannot be completed.

“One year after her husband mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm, single mother Sara Morse and her children discover a strange, extraterrestrial object underneath their home, which leads them to embark on a race to find their husband, father, and most importantly – the truth.”
