Squid Game: The Challenge Finale: Who Won & How?

The Squid Game: The Challenge finale is available to stream and it has revealed the player that defeated 455 others to take the prize home. So, who won Squid Game: The Challenge and the $4.56 million prize money, and how did they win it? Here’s all you need to know about the final showdown.

Who is the winner of Squid Game: The Challenge?

Player 287, Mai Whelan won Squid Game: The Challenge Season 1, and took home the $4.56 million prize money.

Born in Vietnam, the 55-year-old lives in Fairfax County, Virginia, and worked as an Immigration Adjudicator before the show. Her official bio on Netflix reads:

“Mai loves to garden and travel, and she plans on choosing alliances that’ll work to her advantage. If she wins, she plans on looking for a home to spend her retirement in.”

Throughout Squid Game: The Challenge, she demonstrated that she deserved to win, proving to be the strongest contender amongst 456 players. She made smart, bold, and justifiable moves in every game and elimination test and managed to beat two other strong contenders.

How did Player 287, Mai Whelan win Squid Game: The Challenge?

Player 287 defeated Player 016 in the second last elimination test and Player 451 in the final game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to win the Squid Game: The Challenge season 1 title.

After their grand feast, Mai decided to take her fate into her own hands. Being extremely brave, she was the first one to press the button and ascend to the final round. The second last round saw the elimination of Player 016, Sam. So, the final challenge took place between Mai and Player 451, Phill.

But instead of playing “Squid Game” from the original drama, the two reached a similarly designed arena. But the champion was decided through a simple game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. The winner of each round of Rock, Paper, Scissors got a chance to open a safe with one key out of an entire stack.

Mai was relentless and constantly beat Phill in the game. While the latter did win once and got a chance to open the safe, it was ultimately Mai who calmly won Rock, Paper, Scissors and luckily chose the right key that opened the safe to the Squid Game: The Challenge prize money.

Mai’s goal was to win and buy a home where she could retire and spend the rest of her life with her family.
