About 26 years after the release of Good Burger (1997), its sequel, Good Burger 2, landed on Paramount Plus on November 22, 2023. Now, speculation is rife about whether Good Burger 3 will ever hit the screens. The second film gave fans a heavy dosage of nostalgia and reminded them why they fell in love with Kenan Thompson’s Dexter Reed and Kel Mitchell’s Ed in the first place. It received a much better critical response than the first, though it remains to be seen how the audience react to it. Is there a Good Burger 3 release date?
Good Burger 3 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future.
As of late November 2023, the third iteration of the Good Burger franchise hasn’t been officially announced yet. This is to be expected as the second film just released on Paramount Plus.
Phil Traill, the director of Good Burger 2, told Radio Times that there were plans to expand the film series to Good Burger 3 and beyond. “The character of Ed has not changed,” the filmmaker elaborated. “He now has a family, he’s got a bunch of kids and a wife, but he himself is still the same old Ed. As that doesn’t change, we can just do it again and again and put them in crazier and crazier situations. There’s plans afoot for various different things. I don’t think it has to be limited to a trilogy, it can go on.”
Besides Thompson and Mitchell, some of the returning cast members from the first film are Carmen Electra as Roxanne, Josh Server as Fizz, and Lori Beth Denberg as Connie Muldoon. “We had lots of people who wanted to be in the movie, and lots didn’t work out because of dates,” Traill said. “So hopefully, they can come back in Good Burger 3.”
Good Burger was Thompson and Mitchell’s second collaboration after the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That (1994-2020). They would go on to star in the popular Nickelodeon series Kenan & Kel (1996-2001).
In November 2023, Thompson and Mitchell told Variety that they wanted to do more collaborative work in the future. “It would be only right for us to continue to go explore what Kenan and Kel could have been when we were in our 20s when we left Nickelodeon and decided to try to figure it out, instead of just automatically doing the Abbott and Costello thing,” Thompson explained. “Now that we’re older and sharper and wiser and this that and the other, we can do it at such a high level on so many different outlets or whatever. We know so much now. There’s so many different parts to the business. There’s so many different opportunities and we’re just ready to tackle all of that. So it’s very exciting, I think, especially when we’ll be able to own it.”
