Madame Web: Who Are The Three Spider-Women?

The Madame Web trailer just dropped and it offered a tease of what fans can expect from the movie in particular the three Spider-Women. Here is a breakdown of each Spider-Woman seen in the trailer.

Who are the three Spider-Women in Madame Web?

The three Spider-Women in Madame Web are Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon.

Julia Carpenter

Julia Carpenter is the second Spider-Woman after Jessica Drew. She was created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck and first appeared in Secret Wars #6 in 1984. She later becomes Arachne and, even later, the second Madame Web after Cassandra Webb.

In the comics, Carpenter is a college student who gets selected for an experiment disguised as “athletic study.” After the experimental procedure involving a mix of spider-venom and exotic plants, Julia gains spider-like abilities.

Not long after, she teams up with Spider-Man and other Marvel heroes during the Secret Wars event and later on battles various villains like Absorbing Man and Doctor Doom, who kills and resurrects her with The Beyonder’s powers. She then continues her heroics solo or as a West Coast Avengers and Force Works member.

Mattie Franklin

Mattie Franklin is the third character to assume the Spider-Woman alias. She was created by John Byrne and Rafael Kayanan and first appeared in Marvel Comics via Spectacular Spider-Man #262 in 1998.

In the comics, Franklin is a troubled youth who grows up with her wealthy father Jerry. Franklin soon overhears a phone call between her father and Norman Osborn about The Gathering of Five and eventually takes part in it, receiving spider powers.

She then becomes Spider-Woman and dons an identical costume to Spider-Man after the latter temporarily retires and continues her heroics even after he comes out of retirement.

Anya Corazon

Anya Corazon in the comics is known as Spider-Girl and Araña. She was created by Joe Quesada and Fiona Avery and first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #1 in 2004.

In the comics, Anya receives her powers after being imbued with spider-related blood and magic by Miguel Legar after he bonds with her following a near-death experience. Anya then becomes a superhero, wherein she initially partners with Miguel and later on joins forces with other heroes like Spider-Man and the Champions.
