Who is David Holmes & Is He Still Friends With Daniel Radcliffe?

With the David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived documentary set to premiere soon, fans want to know who the former stunt performer is and whether he is still friends with actor Daniel Radcliffe. Here is all you need to know about him.

Who is David Holmes and what happened to him?

David Holmes is a podcast host and former stunt performer who served as Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double for the first six Harry Potter films. Holmes suffered a spinal cord injury when test filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2009, which ended up paralyzing him for life.

In 2009, while he was test filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts One and Two, in particular one of the final scenes of the films, which involved Harry Potter being propelled into the air as a result of an explosion, David Holmes, while performing this stunt, suffered a spinal cord injury after the cable that was supposed to pull him up instead propelled him with too much force and made him crash into a wall which caused him to fracture his neck. This eventually caused an irreparable spinal cord injury that paralyzed him for life.

Holmes, who has since then been using a wheelchair, took up automobile racing where he drove a car with specialized hand controls he could operate on. Holmes then started a production company with his fellow paralyzed friends called Ripple Productions, which in 2020 launched a podcast with Daniel Radcliffe called Cunning Stunts, where he raised awareness about the risks involved with stunt performing.
