Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Release Date Rumors: Is FNAF 2 Coming Out?

Developed from the namesake video game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s is a supernatural horror film directed by Emma Tammi. The plot revolves around Mike Schmidt, a newly hired security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. He soon discovers that the animatronic mascots at his workplace — Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Mr. Cupcake — come alive in the night and go on murderous rampages.

The film premiered in theaters and on Peacock in the US in October 2023. Even though it has garnered poor reviews from critics and has a 25% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it is a box-office success and has already earned $130.6 million globally against a $20 million budget. The film ends after offering the audience hints about a prospective sequel. If you want to know when Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 or FNAF 2 is coming out, you have come to the right place.

Here’s all the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.

Is there a Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 release date?

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future.

As of October 2023, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 release date hasn’t been announced yet. However, back in August 2018, Scott Cawthon, the creator of the video game series, reportedly mentioned in a Steam Community forum post that if the first film were successful, two more films would be made based on the second and third video games. Cawthon also mentioned that he had already written an outline for the second film.

In October 2023, Emma Tammi effectively echoed what Cawthon stated. She told Variety that the prospect of any future cinematic project set in the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe depended on how the first film performed during the opening weekend.

“We’re definitely excited to keep making more movies in this world, should we be lucky enough to do that,” the filmmaker added. “This one was tied into the first game, and we would probably focus on tying the second one into the second game, and so on and so forth. But anything could happen. We’ll have to see.”

Given that the first film is already commercially successful, the second Five Nights at Freddy’s film is likely to happen. In January 2023, Matthew Lillard, who portrays Steve Raglan / William Afton, announced on the WeeklyMTG podcast that he signed a three-film deal with the studios behind the project.

The cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Shelly, Piper Rubio as Abby, Matthew Lillard as Steve Raglan / William Afton, Mary Stuart Masterson as Aunt Jane, Kat Conner Sterling as Max, David Lind as Jeff, Christian Stokes as Hank, Joseph Poliquin as Carl, Grant Feely as Ghost Kid (Blonde Boy), Asher Colton Spence as Ghost Kid (With Hook), and more.

Where is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 coming out?
