Is there an Orange is the New Black Season 8 release date?
There is no Orange is the New Black Season 8 release date as the series has ended after seven seasons.
In October 2018, it was reported that the upcoming season 7 of Orange is the New Black would be its last. In 2016, the series received a three-season renewal order, and it was presumed that the show could continue well beyond that, with the series creator Jenji Kohan running operations for as long as she wished. However, it was ultimately decided to end the show after seven seasons.
“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison,” Kohan said in a statement. “I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black.”
In November 2018, The Hollywood Reporter published an article that stated that Lionsgate TV Group, the production house behind the series, was considering the possibility of developing a sequel. However, Laura Prepon, who portrays Alex Vause in the show, told PopCulture in May 2022 that Kohan wasn’t thinking about making a spin-off at the moment. “I don’t think [Jenji] wants to do that…I think she wants to see some daylight,” the actress said. “I know that people would love to have some kind of spinoff, so I don’t know. We’ll see what happens but Jenji is just — her mind and her writing, oh man, she’s so great.”
