The Walking Dead: Why Is Daryl Dixon in France & How Did He Get There?

Now that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is streaming, fans have many questions burning in their minds, but two prominent ones are “Why is Daryl Dixon in France?” and “How did Daryl get to France from Virginia?“. Here is everything you need to know about Daryl Dixon’s presence in France.

Why is Daryl Dixon in France?

In the first episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Daryl reveals why he ended up in France. Daryl mentions that he ran into a bunch of bad people who put him on a boat and that the whole situation did not go very well.

This implies that Daryl Dixon was kidnapped by a mysterious organization and imprisoned on their ship, which contained various people who were kept as Walker test subjects for the organization. However, Daryl’s claims of the whole situation not going very well implied that a fight broke out between the ship’s crew members and the prisoners, including Daryl. It’s implied that he not only escaped but also derailed the plans of the bad people who were operating the ship.

The bad people are likely the mysterious villainous organization The Cause, as the series’ first three episodes show them trying to hunt down Daryl. Moreover, Madame Genet, the main antagonist of the show and the leader of The Cause, says that an American ruined things for them, implying that Daryl was responsible. Additionally, Codron, a high-ranking member of The Cause, has a grudge against Daryl, claiming that he killed his brother.

As for how Daryl even landed up in this situation, there are two theories:

  • The first theory is that Daryl Dixon was searching for answers regarding the origins of the virus plaguing The Walking Dead universe on the orders of Maggie Rhee. This was shown in the last episode of The Walking Dead, where Maggie became the leader of Hilltop and assigned Daryl to learn more about the virus they were facing.
  • The second theory is that Daryl Dixon was on the search for Rick Grimes and Michonne after he learned that Rick was alive and was currently missing after the Civil Republic Military captured him.

How did Daryl get to France from Virginia?

As revealed in the first episode, Daryl was aboard a French cargo ship carrying Walker test subjects. The ship then exploded and threw Daryl onto the sea, after which he got onto a lifeboat and drifted across the Gulf of Cadiz till he washed ashore in France.
