Although the show was initially developed as a limited series, its massive success changed that, with Netflix announcing in November 2022 that Monster had been turned into an anthology series and ordering two other installments of it. In May 2023, the streaming giant revealed that season 2 would revolve around the Menéndez brothers, convicted in 1996 of killing their parents, and set the release date in 2024.

According to a report published by Deadline in June 2023, Cooper Koch had been cast as Erik Menendez, and Nicholas Chavez as Lyle Menendez. This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.

The audience might know Koch from the 2022 film They/Them, in which he plays a character named Stu. Chavez portrays Spencer Cassadine in the ABC soap opera General Hospital.
