Why Does Ahsoka Have White Lightsabers in the Disney Plus Series?

With Ahsoka finally premiering on Disney Plus, fans couldn’t help but notice the titular heroine wields some particular white lightsabers. Hardcore Star Wars fans might recall Ahsoka’s weapons had a different color when she debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Then why does Ahsoka have white lightsabers now? And why did the color of her lightsabers change? Here’s what you need to know about that.

Why does Ahsoka Tano have white lightsabers?

Ahsoka obtained her white lightsabers after defeating the Sixth Brother.

As explained in E. K. Johnston’s novel Ahsoka, the former Jedi retrieved the kyber crystals from the Sixth Brother’s lightsabers following her clash with the Inquisitorius member in Raada. She then healed them of any Dark Side presence until the crystals turned white.

The white lightsabers reflected Ahsoka’s alignment with neither the Jedi nor the Sith, seeking her own path of balance and justice. Ahsoka’s choice to leave the Jedi Order was a pivotal moment in her life, and her subsequent experiences led her to reevaluate her beliefs and principles. However, she actively opposed the Empire several times, showing she was still siding with the Jedi to a certain level.

Ahsoka Tano lightsabers color explained

Ahsoka’s lightsabers color turned from green to blue to white in Star Wars.

When she first appeared in The Clone Wars, Ahsoka wielded a distinctive green-bladed lightsaber, employing an unconventional reverse grip. Guided by Anakin Skywalker, she honed her combat skills, crafting a second lightsaber with a shoto-style, shorter green blade to complement her original.

Anakin then improved his Padawan’s sabers, turning their color blue before the Siege of Mandalore. Those same blue lightsabers were abandoned on the burial site of Captain Rex when Ahsoka faked her own death and went into exile. When she fought the Sixth Brother on Raada, Ahsoka was without a lightsaber but still managed to escape the sticky situation. After the confrontation, Ahsoka accepted Bail Organa’s invitation to fight the Empire again, embarking on the journey fans saw in Star Wars Rebels.
