Blue Beetle Scarab Power Explained: Where Did It Come From?

Here is the Blue Beetle Scarab power explained. For superhero fans interested in where exactly the Scarab came from, its founders, and the powers it bestows upon the chosen human, this detail details the must-know information.

Blue Beetle Scarab Power Explained

The Blue Beetle Scarab’s origin story

According to the source material, the Scarab named Khaji-Da appears on Earth, and it is one of many Scarabs that were sent to thousands of planets across galaxies by a species known as “The Reach.”

The Reach species, along with the Guardians that created the Green Lanterns, are known to be the first two intelligent species to have ever existed.

After years of war, the two species signed a peace treaty that denied The Reach from attacking new planets and conquering them. So, they took on an infiltration approach and created new genetically advanced tools known as “Scarabs” that would help them achieve their goal.

A Scarab is sent to a planet to slowly infiltrate and take control of it by choosing suitable hosts and bending their free will to obey the Reach. This plan usually takes hundreds of years, but it has allowed The Reach to take over 10,000+ planets. For a similar reason, Khaji-Da dropped on Earth thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt.

All founders of the Scarab on Earth

Khaji-Da was first spotted by Egyptian Pharaoh Kha-Ef-Re. After that, the archaeologist Dan Garret found it and was chosen by it to become the first Blue Beetle. By this time, the Scarab had been damaged and stopped taking total control of its host. Instead, it began to bond with them.

After Garrett died in battle, genius millionaire Ted Kord got his hands on it. But he didn’t use the Scarab’s abilities to become Blue Beetle. Instead, he used his own knowledge and resources, before the scarab made its way to young Jaime Reyes.

While the origins of Reyes’ Blue Beetle are slightly different than the comics, the movie still teased the Scarab’s aforementioned comic book history. After all, Khaji-Da is meant to be the “Destroyer of Worlds” but becomes one with Jaime instead. This bonding might become the reason for Khaji-Da to turn on The Reach in the future.

List of Blue Beetle’s Scarab Powers

The Scarab gives Jaime various superhuman abilities by bonding with every cell in his body. The abilities include incredible strength and flight through thrusters and two extended wings. The Beetle armor is also nearly impenetrable and enables Jaime to breathe underwater and even in outer space.

With Khaji-Da, Jaime can also transform his hands into a variety of tools, including claws, spiked maces, bladed swords, and plasma cannons that fire strong blasts of energy. It basically allows him to create anything he imagines, which is similar to Green Lantern’s ability. Considering that the Reach’s origin is tied to the Guardians, it makes sense for their tech to be similar to the Lanterns in some way.

In addition to creating offensive and defensive weapons, Blue Beetle is also a master of energy absorption. He could use it to increase his own powers and become invulnerable to energy attacks. With these abilities, a battle between Green Lantern and Blue Beetle would become interesting to witness in future DCU projects.
