The latest season is set in the 70s but is based on the 1980’s “People of Darkness” book from Tony Hillerman’s “Leaphorn & Chee” novel series. Jim Chee, who was Joe Leaphorn’s deputy in the first season, is now a private investigator. But co-incidentally, he and Leaphorn work on a similar case, chasing after the same killer from different ends.
Season 2 of this psychological thriller brings back Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Zahn McClarnon as Lt. Joe Leaphorn from the first season, and Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito. Amongst the newcomers is Nicholas Logan as Colton Wolf, Rainn Wilson as ‘Devoted’ Dan DeMarco, and Noah Emmerich as Leland Whitover.
The official synopsis for the second season of Dark Winds reads:
“Lt. Joe Leaphorn reunites with Jim Chee, his former deputy turned private eye, when their separate cases bring them together in pursuit of the same suspect. They find themselves in the high desert of Navajo Country chasing a killer who’s turned his sights on them to protect a secret that rips open old wounds and challenges Leaphorn’s moral and professional code. With the help of Sgt. Manuelito and Valencia County Sheriff Gordo Sena, Leaphorn, and Chee must thwart their would-be assassin and restore balance not only to their own lives, but to the reservation that depends on them.”
