Who is Varra a.k.a. Priscilla Fury in Secret Invasion?
Portrayed by Charlayne Woodard, Varra a.k.a. Priscilla is Nick Fury’s wife and a brand-new MCU character.
As much as it might sound like a surprise, previous rumors indicated Marvel Studios cast Woodard as Fury’s wife. The character was indirectly mentioned in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where Fury stated his wife kicked him out of their house. In Secret Invasion episode 2, Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Priscilla meet again after Fury goes to what’s supposed to be their home. It is implied Priscilla is secretly a Skrull, as she’s seen in her alien form before taking the appearance of Woodard. The episode didn’t address the matter, but it might return in future episodes. It might also explain why Fury cares so much about the Skrulls and their fate.
In the comics, Nick Fury has had several romantic relationships, including Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a weapons smuggler called Amber D’Alexis, and Nia Jones. However, none of his love interests was called Priscilla. His relationships resulted in two children, Mikel (deceased) and Marcus, a.k.a. Nick Fury Jr. Fans wanting to know more about Priscilla’s background will have to wait for the series to unveil new details.
Woodard’s credits include The Crucible (1996), Unbreakable (2000), and The Million Dollar Hotel (2000). She has also made notable television appearances, such as her recurring role as Janice on the hit series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Additionally, guest appearances on shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
