The new trailer re-introduces fans to Samus Aran, the most powerful bounty hunter in the galaxy. The footage then takes players to the as-of-yet unexplored Planet ZDR, where Metroid Dread will take place. Holding a ton of secrets, the planet holds a massive labyrinth underneath its surface for which to explore, with the trailer showcasing the traditional Metroid-style map along with some new gameplay.

Alongside the Metroid staples such as Samus’ arm cannon and ability to jump and roll into a ball, Metroid Dread also features two new mechanics, with Samus able to slide now to get underneath tight corridors, and a melee counter mechanic, that lets players deflect enemy attacks. Finally, the trailer introduces players to a group of dangerous robots known as E.M.M.I.

These robots have bodies covered with tough armor that normal attacks can’t penetrate, and will be on a mission to hunt down and capture Samus. The only way to make your way out of these situations is to use Samus’ abilities and escape. There will be a handful of different E.M.M.I. types found in Metroid Dread, each with its own capabilities and likely abilities.
