PlayStation 4 Sales Surpass 70 Million Units Worldwide

A year ago today came the news that Sony’s PlayStation 4 had sold 50 million units worldwide, and now Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced another sales milestone for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and PS4 & PS VR games.

As of December 3, the PlayStation 4 has cumulatively sold though more than 70.6 million units to consumers worldwide with over 617 million copes of PlayStation 4 games sold at retail stores and in the PlayStation digital store. In addition, The PlayStation VR has sold more than 2 million units worldwide. 150 titles have been released for the virtual reality system with over 12.2 million copies sold worldwide.

“We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4, and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction,” said Andrew House, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “I cannot thank our fans and partners enough. Their support, since the launch of the very first PlayStation in 1994, has helped to make PlayStation one of the biggest console gaming networks in the world. We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum, and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play.”

On the software front, PS4’s portfolio will continue to expand with an array of games, including God of War, Detroit: Become Human and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Currently there are more than 130 highly-anticipated games and other entertainment content in development for PS VR, launching by the end of 2018.
