Kazuki Takahashi’s Yu-Gi-Oh! began as a manga series back in 1996, and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It then spawned the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 1999, which is based on the fictional Duel Monsters game in the manga. This nearly coincides with the initial release of the anime in 2000.
