Braid Anniversary Edition Release Date Set, Coming to Netflix

Thekla, Inc. announced on Friday that Braid Anniversary Edition would be releasing next year, and would also be arriving on Netflix.

The announcement came during Netflix’s 2023 Geeked Week, where Thekla confirmed that the Braid Anniversary Edition release date will be April 30, 2024. The 2008 puzzle-platformer will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Netflix.

The original game was released in 2008 and was an instant success. The game follows the story of Tim, who attempts to rescue a princess with his ability to manipulate time.

Braid Anniversary Edition to include repainted graphics, 15+ hours of commentary

Braid Anniversary Edition will present the 2008 classic indie title in an improved format, with new sound mixes and variants to the soundtrack by Martin Stig Andersen (Control, Inside) and Hans Christian Kock. The graphics to the game have also been hand-repainted by original artist David Hellman, and new animations with extra frames and smoother motion have been included.

Alongside the changes, Braid Anniversary Edition will also include 15+ hours of commentary featuring the game’s creator Jonathan Blow, David Hellman, Marc ten Bosch (Miegakure), Brian Moriarty (Trinity, Loom, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel), Casey Muratori (1935; Handmade Hero; Computer, Enhance!), Cris Moore (gamer, resident faculty at the Santa Fe Institute), Frank Cifaldi (Video Game History Foundation), Martin Stig Andersen, Hans Christian Kock, and Jakob Schmid.

“The goal is to make it the craziest, most-in-depth commentary ever put in a video game,” said Thekla, Inc. founder Jonathan Blow. “You can follow particular threads of commentary spatially, through wormholes that go from level to level to see evolutions of particular concepts; the commentary has lots of markup so we can circle stuff on the screen, point arrows at whatever visual detail we are talking about, show diagrams, play back recordings of gameplay to show what happens if you try doing this or that in a particular level, and many other capabilities.”
