Constantine 2 in the Works, Keanu Reeves to Reprise Role

Constantine 2 in the Works, Keanu Reeves to Reprise Starring Role

It took almost two decades, but Constantine is finally getting a sequel. Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his starring role as the titular character and Francis Lawrence is returning to direct the follow-up.

As reported by Deadline, Akiva Goldsman is writing the screenplay and producing alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella from Bad Robot. Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Erwin Stoff are also slated to executive produce the film. There’s no one else that’s currently attached to the project at this time.

Reeves has stated multiple times in the past that he’d love to play the character again, telling Variety, Esquire, and Stephen Colbert all the same thing over the last few years. He even stated that he tried to get it made, but left it at that. Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the original, also posted on Instagram in November 2020 that a sequel was coming, but Warner Bros. representatives did not answer when asked about it.

Reeves has revisited a few of his old franchises in recent years. The John Wick star made sequels to Bill and Ted and The Matrix in 2020 and 2021, respectively, both of which had been dormant for decades.

Variety had reported in February 2021 that a Constantine series was headed to HBO Max and that J.J. Abrams was also executive producing. However, according to a new report by the same outlet, that TV reboot has been killed alongside a Madam X series. However, they still might show up in other place as Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot are reportedly “extremely high” on both projects and expects that the two shows will find a home somewhere else.
