God of War Ragnarök Gameplay Video Shows New Combat Moves

Sony has only released snippets of God of War Ragnarök in action, a game that is just over two months away. But now after a lengthy period of sparse updates, the team has put out a gameplay video to give users a better look at the sequel to one of the PlayStation 4’s most highly acclaimed games.

Game Informer debuted the footage as a part of its latest and newly revealed cover story. This snippet of gameplay demonstrates some of Kratos’ new moves and enemies, like the reptilian Grims, in action. Kratos can now use the Triangle button to endow his Blades of Chaos and Leviathan Axe with fire and ice, respectively. He seems more agile in the video, too, as he is able to grapple around with his Blades and attack more fluidly from high ledges.

Kratos will even have access to new shields that have different properties. For example, one shield, as explained in the written feature about the combat, is more about parrying while the other is geared towards blocking. This second shield can’t parry, but it can unleash a shockwave once it gets struck enough times. These are only two examples of the multiple shields in the game.

Game Informer tends to have covers on games that are on the cusp of being more substantially shown off, which might also lend credence to the rumblings of another imminent PlayStation Showcase. It has been just about a year since the last one, but the company has not detailed such an event. However, it would be a fitting place to reveal even more God of War Ragnarök gameplay. But until then, Game Informer will have another gameplay video on September 6 at 8 a.m. PT about the dwarven realm of Svartalfheim.
