The Queen's Gambit Brings Chess to Netflix Games

The Queen’s Gambit Brings Chess to Netflix Games

Netflix’s mobile games efforts started off in earnest in late 2021, and they’re doubling down with established indies and more games inspired by their streaming video lineup. One of the most natural conversions comes from The Queen’s Gambit, a show centered around the world’s most famous board game. Ripstone Games have already developed several digital versions of chess, so it’s only natural that Netflix taps them for a chess game with story elements straight out of the hit show.

Once the game hits the Netflix app, would-be grandmasters can compete against characters from the show, and pick up pointers from Mr. Shaibel. They can also just play a game of chess with their friends, as Ripstone has ported over their full chess package to this new game. Much like the Queen’s Gambit-themed chessboards chilling on shelves at Barnes & Noble, this is a chess game first and foremost. Ripstone has just sprinkled in thematic elements that show fans will appreciate.

The Queen’s Gambit Chess was announced as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week showcase during today’s Summer Game Fest activities. Netflix announced that there would be around 50 games on their service by the end of the year, including several known indies making their mobile debut. There are already several games based on Stranger Things on the app now, and Netflix has other games based on Hello Kitty and Nailed It! in the pipeline.
