Nier: Automata Headlines PlayStation Now August 2021 Lineup

The PlayStation Now August 2021 lineup is loaded with a trio of games that have little in common, except high critical reception. The three games in question are Nier: Automata, Ghostrunner, and Undertale and they’ll be available on August 3.

Nier: Automata is a 2017 action RPG from Bayonetta developer PlatinumGames. While a little bit of a departure from the first entry, this title was renowned for its rich, complex storytelling, multiple endings, and absurdity. And even though it isn’t included on PS Now, there’s even an expansion called 3C3C1D119440927 that lets players fight the Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda and PlatinumGames’ CEO Kenichi Sato. However, Automata is the only game here with an explicit expiration date as it is leaving PS Now on November 1, 2021.

Ghostrunner is the newest game on the list, as it only came out in fall 2020. The well-received first-person parkour title lets players run, jump, dash, and hack their way across a dystopian cyberpunk world. It can be quite difficult, but it rewards player skill and has plenty of load-free checkpoints. The game is still getting a gradual drip of free updates and paid cosmetic DLC. It won’t be included on PS Now, but there’s also a free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade due out for September 28 that will have ray tracing, fast loading, and more.

Undertale arguably has the biggest legacy of the three. This successful 2D RPG garnered a fanbase because of its witty writing and ability to defy the genre, much like the Earthbound series it took inspiration from.
