The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next-Gen Update Features Netflix Inspired DLC

Even six years after its initial release, CD Projekt Red’s third entry in Geralt of Rivia’s adventure remains relevant. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update is set for a 2021 release and will include DLC based on the Netflix TV show.

The announcement was revealed on The Witcher game’s official Twitter account. It states The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update would be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this year. However, a specific date was not given. Despite that, they did give a “sneak peek” of the game’s updated cover art. You can see that for yourself below.

More importantly, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen will feature DLC inspired by The Witcher Netflix show. What that entails is still a mystery, but surely, there will be some “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” callback somewhere. The rest of the details for the upcoming patch will be coming soon, according to the tweet.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of WitcherCon, the online event celebrating the many adventures of Geralt of Rivia. During the digital convention, the release date for The Witcher Season 2 was revealed, as well as a few screens from the upcoming season. Additionally, we got a new look at the upcoming animated series The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

Before it became a household name as a video game franchise, The Witcher began as a fantasy novel series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The first story was published in 1986, with its most recent entry, Season of Storms, being published in 2013. The novel series has been adapted into a film, two television series, several video games, and a graphic novel series.

The Netflix series by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich made its debut on the streamer in 2019. It stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Joey Batey as Jaskier, and Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold. Season Two will premiere on December 17, 2021.
