Ghostrunner 2 Announced Alongside Upgraded Version of Original

First-person cyberpunk action parkour game Ghostrunner is getting a full sequel and an upgraded version of the original on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

Publisher 505 Games, who acquired the IP last month, announced that they have big plans for the Ghostrunner series following a first game that has sold 600,000 copies since October of last year. Developer One More Level is back on board to develop the sequel.

The original game follows amnesiac hero Jack the Ghostrunner in a quest to discover the past and find out which of the many voices in his head are lying to him. Gameplay mostly consists of rapid-fire yet precise movements along rooftops while utilizing a sword to deflect incoming bullets and slice up the opposition.

“We are particularly excited about the future release of Ghostrunner 2. Together with One More Level, we have created a thrilling and engaging video game,” says Raffaele Galante, co-CEO of Digital Bros (the parent company of 505 Games). “This new collaboration deepens 505 Games presence within the Polish videogame market, a reality now among the firsts in Europe for the development of video games, new projects, and talents. We will continue to pay close attention to the Polish market to constantly improve and expand our product portfolio with video games capable of satisfying the tastes of the entire gaming community.”

While the sequel will likely take years to surface, old and new fans alike can at least take advantage of the upcoming current-gen upgrade for Ghostrunner. This new edition will make the game compatible with Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, although the press release does not mention if current customers will get the game for free. 505 Games has gone back and forth on offering this benefit to their customers, especially in the case of Control earlier this year. In either case, this new edition will appear by the end of 2021.
