Exclusive: How Ridley Scott Created the Mudslide in Exodus: Gods and Kings

There’s little question that Ridley Scott is one of our greatest living filmmakers thanks to epic films like GladiatorBlack Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven, but also sci-fi classics such as Alien and Blade Runner. The thought of Scott taking on one of the greatest biblical epics with Exodus: Gods and Kings certainly held a lot of promise, especially as it teamed him with Christian Bale as Moses, and the movie does provide a distinctively “Ridley Scott-esque” vision of the Old Testament story of the man who freed the Hebrews from the reign of a despotic Egyptian Pharaoh (played by Joel Edgerton).

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has provided ComingSoon.net with an exclusive behind-the-scenes extra showing how Scott and his crew used a mix of VFX and practical effects to create the mudslide for a pivotal scene as well as the Burning Bush that represents the voice of God, which you can watch in the video player below. Exodus: Gods and Kings will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, March 17.

The epic adventure Exodus: Gods and Kings is the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.
