Mini-Review:

We all know the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies are a lot of fun, so let’s get down to the real question – what does this seven disc Blu-ray set have to offer? Well, if you already own the POTC movies on Blu-ray, then it’s not a lot. This set is simply the previously released discs plus a new disc in a paper sleeve stuck to the box. It’s kind of sad looking, actually. On that lonely little disc you’ll find about an hour of deleted scenes from “Dead Man’s Chest” and “At World’s End.” You get a bit more Jack Sparrow as you see him match wits with Lord Cutler Beckett, clown around with a severed toe, and other stuff. Another deleted scene shows Bill Nighy performing as Davy Jones without the CGI effects. You see him in the leotard with dots all over his face. It’s an interesting look at the effects process. Also included on this extra disc is a two-minute preview of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” A measly two-minutes? You’d think they could put something a little more substantial on this considering the customer is buying all three films!

If you don’t already own the POTC films on Blu-ray, then this is a good opportunity to pick them up. You get everything that came along before all in one nice set. But if you’re only interested in the new bonus features, they alone don’t justify the purchase of this whole new set. There will probably be another one coming along when “On Stranger Tides” is released on Blu-ray, so you may want to wait for that.
