Mini-Review:
I’m a big fan of “The Office.” It’s one of the few shows I watch religiously. I hated the fact that the season was cut short by the writer’s strike, but episodes that did air were pretty good. Pam and Jim managed to get together and the show didn’t suffer the curse of ‘jumping the shark’ when the romantic tension was lifted. (Plus Jim got out of his previous relationship rather gracefully, though at the price of his dignity in the Branch Wars episode.) Ryan spiraled into career implosion. Jan went crazier and crazier culminating in the hilarious Dinner Party episode. We got a peek at the Schrute bed and breakfast while the Dwangela relationship broke up. A lot happened though the season was cut short.

There is a good selection of bonus features on this DVD set. If you didn’t look at any of the extras online, then you’ll be thrilled with what’s here. If you already viewed the webisodes, then you may have seen it all before. In any case, I’m an “Office” fan who didn’t look at the online extras, so I was very happy with what was here. There’s almost 2 hours of bonus features, so it’s like viewing four extra episodes. That alone made the DVD set worthwhile to me. You see more of Ryan’s fall from grace, more of the Dinner Party, more of the Job Fair, and other good stuff. One line I loved was when Michael was speaking to Jan in The Deposition – “There was a time when they said you were out of my league. Oh, how the mighty have fallen…into my arms.” There’s also a blooper reel, commentaries, a funny rabies public service announcement, and a panel with the writers from an “Office” convention. Also included is a hard copy of the Dinner Party script. Flipping through it really made me appreciate the writing. You also see more of where the actors ad lib and depart from the script. It provides some real insight into the creative process.
