The Last Mimzy took the top spot on the national DVD sales chart for the week ending July 15, says The Hollywood Reporter. In its theatrical release, the New Line Home Entertainment title had grossed just $21.5 million.
Paramount Home Entertainment’s Shooter, meanwhile, remained at the top of Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart for the third consecutive week, while slipping to No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart.
On the rental chart, “Mimzy” bowed at No. 3, with estimated rental earnings of $3.7 million. Paramount’s Black Snake Moan remained at No. 2 its third week in stores, generating $4 million in rental revenue to bring its total rental take to $15.1 million, or 160 percent of its total theatrical gross.
Only one other new release debuted in the First Alert top 10: Warner Home Video’s The Astronaut Farmer, which grossed $11 million in theaters. The film entered the chart at No. 3, while debuting at No. 8 on the rental chart.
