The week kicks off with writer and director Marielle Heller’s critically-acclaimed drama The Diary of a Teenage Girl. Other recent big screen releases include Baltasar Kormakur’s mountain climbing thriller Everest, Nancy Meyers’ Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway-led comedy drama The Intern, and, on DVD only, Roland Emmerich‘s civil rights period drama Stonewall.

Three very different music stories also arrive January 19 in the form of the F. Gary Gray’s massively well-received N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, Jon M. Chu’s ’80s cartoon show adaptation Jem and the Holograms, and Colin Hanks’ crowdsourced documentary, All Things Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records.

The Criterion Collection has two new inductees on January 19 with both Charles Vidor’s 1949 Gilda (iconically headlined by Rita Hayworth) and the recent Coen Brothers masterpiece, Inside Llewyn Davis.

Collectors have two cult classics hitting HD this week as January 19 sees the arrival (via Shout! Factory) of William Friedkin’s 1990 horror thriller, The Guardian and (via Warner Archive) of Stewart Raffill’s sci-fi comedy adventure Ice Pirates.

On the small screen, Syfy brings home two sets of original programming with the first season of 12 Monkeys and the fourth season of Continuum. There’s also Adventure Time: Stakes, which includes the full eight episode Cartoon Network miniseries.

Debuting via Digital HD this week is the latest James Bond adventure, SPECTRE, David Gordon Green’s true political tale, Our Brand is Crisis, and the HBO series The Knick (season two) and Getting On (season three).
