Andrew McCarthy’s Hulu Documentary: Who Were Members of Brat Pack?

Teen-oriented coming-of-age films in the 1980s were the talk of the town. Interestingly, in several of these movies, a group of young actors often appeared together. Collectively, the nickname of this group was the Brat Pack.

The Brat Pack members consisted of eight individuals: Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe, and Demi Moore. All of them had different career paths, and are unsurprisingly still active in showbiz. The term Brat Pack is derived from the Rat Pack, a group of entertainers who were immensely popular in the 1950s and the 1960s. To be a Brat Pack member, the said actor must have appeared in either one or both of the 1985 films, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire. Their directors were John Hughes and Joel Schumacher respectively.

The Brat Pack members are the subject of an upcoming documentary titled BRATS. In its two-and-a-half-minute-long trailer, viewers saw its director and the Brat Pack member, Andrew McCarthy, reconnecting with his former co-stars. Additionally, the director discusses about the now-infamous moniker with Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez. A few months back, McCarthy opened up on being a Brat Pack member. He stated that even though from the outside, the group looked extremely “cool”, the truth was different. He added that he and his peers often suffered from loneliness and via the upcoming documentary, he wants to bring the reality under limelight. McCarthy said, “To the outside world, to that generation, you wanted to be us. For us, it just wasn’t that way.”

Per IMDb, BRAT’s synopsis reads, “Centers on 1980s films starring the ‘Brat Pack’ and their profound impact on the young stars’ lives.” Furthermore, it will come out on Hulu on June 13.

In 2018, she and Andrew McCarthy’s son, Sam, were featured in a film titled All These Small Moments, and McCarthy once revealed how Sam reminded the actress of his father. He said, “She emailed me on the first day and she said, ‘Your son just did a scene and when he walked away, it was just like watching you walk away from me 30 years ago.”

Ringwald is married to American author Panio Gianopoulos, with whom she has three children.
